Bending Borders at the Leventhal Map & Education Center

The riverrun Global Film Series is produced by riverrun, and includes films by filmmakers Ignacio Sanchez Prado, Richard Reitsma, and the Burchfield Penney Art Center. The festival is sponsored by the UB Department of English and Romance Languages and Literatures. Bruce Jackson, the James Agee Chair in American Culture, and Tanya Shilina-Conte, Assistant Professor of Global Film and Media Studies, will moderate the panel.

The exhibition is organized to explore how maps can bend the boundaries of reality. While maps can never fully communicate the truth without perspective, they can elicit a powerful sense of trust. As social objects, maps have symbolic and written language that produces their authority and meaning. The contexts in which they circulate determine their authority. By exploring these contexts, the Bending Lines exhibition explores the ways in which maps can bend the lines of reality.

The film is aimed at tackling the problem of prejudgments and how to identify them. We all have prejudgments, and the film helps us to learn to recognize them. By learning more about the human condition, we can learn to better understand our fellow humans and develop discussion skills. In turn, we can help others. If our society does not have a border, we will have a more diverse world. This event will bring people from all over the world together and build a stronger and more cohesive community.

The film is free to watch and free to attend. The public is encouraged to visit the gallery during the exhibition. The Leventhal Map & Education Center is also located on the campus of Boston University. Admission is free. We hope you'll enjoy the exhibition.
