Japan’s Gion Festival Begins, With Music and Dancing All Night Long.

The Gion Festival is one of the most famous festivals in Kyoto, Japan. Held annually from July 17th to August 16th, it’s best known for its spectacular lanterns and large-scale floats that parade through the streets of Gion district at night.

It’s a tradition for many locals to go see these lanterns with their friends and family on this day, which means the Gion festival can be quite crowded – but there are plenty of events taking place all over town

The parade of floats continues through downtown until nightfall when festivities come to a close. Each day at 9pm there are more performances for you to enjoy: traditional Japanese dance (Omiki), drumming.
