LulzSec Attacks Escapist Magazine, EVE Online And Minecraft

Hacker group LulzSec the same group that has previously attacked Sony and Nintendo in the past, has posted that it has committed three distributed denial of service attacks on gaming companies today, bringing down EVE Online's Tranquility server as well as Minecraft's multiplayer features, and the Escapist Magazine's website. EVE Online's CCP confirmed the attack and outage. The Escapist website isn't available at the moment. Minecraft creator Notch said that the service was restored, but that it was down.

LulzSec has yet to reveal a reason for the attacks, but we can only guess that it's "for teh laulz."

Update: Riot Games' League of Legends servers were also targeted by the group. The login screen of the game displays a message indicating that the server is currently busy. However Riot Games hasn't yet confirmed this message.

Update: CCP has issued a statement following the break. EVE Online still seems to be down.

CCP was alerted by CCP at 17:00 GMT today regarding a distributed denial of service attack (DDoS), against the EVE Online cluster as well as web servers.

The services were immediately shut down. In addition, all of CCP's infrastructure was shut off from the public Internet.

The CCP Security team is conducting an extensive investigation to find out exactly what transpired and, if so the impact could be, and, most importantly and foremost, assuring that all personal information of our customers remains secure.

More information will be released as it's available.
