Mojang Rolls out Player Chat Reporting Into Minecraft Java

Minecraft Java Edition 1.19.1 is available now and includes some controversial changes that many players are not particularly content with.

The first major change is the addition of player reporting, if they make abusive messages in the game chat. You can report specific servers, and choose multiple messages to include as well as include comments. Mojang / Microsoft moderators then will review the reports and take action. It applies to everyone, even private servers. Another modification to text chat is that it links with that. It will add a note to the chat for every message that is not sent, or in the event that it is modified by the server.

Mojang say people won't be banned for swearing, but it's more targeted at "hate speech or bullying, harassment sexual solicitation, making true threats to others". If you get banned it won't affect playing single-player.

Naturally, there's already modifications to circumvent this, such as the No Chat Reports mod that claims to strip out the signatures attached to chat messages, making them "impossible to trace and link your chat messages with your Minecraft and, by extension, Microsoft account".

Mojang recently criticized NFTs and blockchain in Minecraft in case you didn't see it.
