'Minecraft: Education Edition' is Available On Chromebooks

In the midst of a new school year that may have students not stepping into a physical classroom, Microsoft is bringing Minecraft: Education Edition to Chromebooks.

Chrome OS Minecraft: Education Edition will allow cross-platform play between Windows, iPad, and Mac versions. Students will be able to interact and collaborate on projects regardless of the device they use. Microsoft is also updating the program to add 11 new STEM lessons as well as an interactive Minecraft world to teach students about bees and pollination.https://swissrocketman.com/ The update also comes with an updated lesson plan library and tagged capabilities.

The company claims that Chrome OS, iPad and Windows devices will install the update automatically. However, Mac users will need to download the update manually. Schools that are already using Minecraft: Education Edition in their classrooms won't need to change their subscription; the company will include the Chrome OS version to its Microsoft 365 for Education A3 and A5 licenses.

Minecraft Education Edition has been available since the year 2016 So it's not surprising to learn it's only being made available to Chromebooks this year. Google's computing platform is the dominant one in education. According to Google there were more than 30 million Chromebooks being used in schools across the globe as of the year 2019. Chromebooks accounted for 60 percent of all tablets and laptops purchased in the US for classrooms for K-12 students in 2018. The other thing that's fascinating about this update is that it gives Chrome OS users an official method of installing Minecraft without having to download the game onto their device.
