The Minecraft Timeline

The story of Minecraft sounds like a great movie script. Notch as the main character genius programmer, who, from an underdog (indie) position and a single-handedly transformed the game industry simply by doing what he enjoyed. And he made lots of money throughout the process.jerry's blog And , even more when he got fed up with it all and decided to sell Minecraft. Perhaps a movie is unnecessary. It's well documented. Most people know the story. It is partly because a lot of the story was told online. So we have the blogs, websites, forum posts, tweets, and YouTube videos. We don't have a timeline of the development of Minecraft (until now). Then I began paying attention to Minecraft and its creator. Because even then it seemed to be a fascinating story. One man and his computer changed the world. My favorite kind of story! I remember being amazed on August 20th, 2011, when Notch took part in a game-coding contest and live-streamed the entire event, which he did frequently. (Mind you this is a condensed version, but the whole thing was over 48 hours). This was a different kind of guy! The wonders of game design were revealed before your eyes. It was too quick to capture all the details, but it did give you a good idea of what's needed to create games. Only him and his computer with Java IDE Eclipse and Paint.net. The same tools he used when creating Minecraft. I later discovered, through the contest, that there are many other competent programmers just like him. Not everyone is able to strike it rich. But then again, like Notch Most aren't in it because of the same reason (for whatever reason).

Minecraft is a story that is unique which is why I made one.

Some noticeable things from this timeline.

- Notch began working on Minecraft just a few weeks before the start of his new job at jAlbum, the same software used by this site! - Notch worked for a year developing Minecraft before he decided to quit his job. It was estimated that about 20.000 copies were sold at this point. The game was still in its initial stage. It was promising to say the least. The second half of 2010 was crazy and so was the first half of 2011. They founded the company around Minecraft: Mojang, hired a lot of employees, made a lot of improvements to the game, released a second game (completely different) as well as a meeting with Valve and organized MineCon, had a lawsuit on their hands and, in the midst of all that, they sold millions of copies of Minecraft! Many important Minecraft events seem to have happened on June 1 a couple of years in consecutive years (this also happens to be Notch's birthday).

The Minecraft story isn't finished yet. Minecraft is, of course, alive and breaking records. However, Notch and Minecraft were once part of the same narrative, but are now on separate timelines.

But whatever happens next, the story of Minecraft will always be a thrilling tale and the impact it has on the entertainment and gaming industry will be felt for years and years to come. This video, which was discovered on Youtube in 2009, is even more unique.
