'Minecraft' Mod Fosters a Collaborative Effort against Climate Change

A Minecraft modder has introduced fresh gameplay issues for players to tackle in the form of climate change. Nick Porillo's GlobalWarming mod alters the atmosphere in response to certain actions such as melting ore. As climate change becomes more prevalent and temperatures rise, temperatures will also rise.MINECRAFT SERVERS This will lead to more carbon emissions, which can result in severe storms, forest fires and the reduction of snowfall.

Planting trees to absorb carbon dioxide could aid in combating the effects of climate change. To tackle the issue on a bigger scale, you can purchase carbon offsets, which gives other players a tree-planting bounty to complete -- that is in line with one of the themes of working together to combat climate change.

"If the majority of players do not agree that they will be near-carbon neutral in their game, then the carbon score in-game will only increase." Porillo explained to Motherboard that players will begin paying back the 'debt' they've incurred after the damage is done. "The idea is if the players put in a little more effort in the beginning to not release a ton and then completely stay clear of the cost to be paid later."

He is planning to add more features like a scorecard which allows you to see who are the most carbon-neutral players, figure out your carbon footprint, and also add methane as a greenhouse gas. This mod is compatible with Minecraft Server Java Edition. You can download it from GitHub.
