In a way, BC has less to gain than the Fenway Sports Group. I don't think you would get a flood of applicants from Liverpool but I do think it would help the school gain some additional recognition in the United Kingdom. I also think it extends the Liverpool FC brand in the U.S. What I think happens with high school coverage is that people at the papers care more. If BC played a solid team early on a Saturday morning, people would watch. Harry Pearce Portraits' is in the business of recording the images of interesting and prominent people in both their raw and stylised forms. In the end, what won it for VHS was the value proposition of a longer play time and the business model move of entering the video rental market. The next best thing for FSG would be college football. Aside from the potential of a onetime pay day, FSG could benefit from a couple of aspects of a game. The Lady Rattlers totaled 95.5 points in the all-sports tally, highlighted by their fifth consecutive conference championship in cross country and fourth straight softball championship. It is not speculative piece on the BCS or which school is moving to what conference. And with the viral nature of sports, a good BC or college article can bring in 100 times more traffic than a high school story.
I just wish some of those promising local high school writers were given the same encouragement and support to cover the local college landscape. It is a shame too as I think local college coverage will continue to die. It would be easy to determine if a risk exists or WILL exist soon. The broadcasts will be national on Sirius XM Satellite Radio and on local stations across the country. The whole country tuned in and the drama only built. The game wouldn't be a merchandise play but it would help the Liverpool paraphernalia sales. The NFL is not coming to Liverpool. Coming here means more than just a simple hair cut or color.
