CairnGorm Mountain
A trip to CairnGorm Mountain in the Highlands is an unforgettable experience, as it is a natural phenomenon and home to a number of iconic wildlife species. The Cairngorms national park is situated in the north east region of Scotland. It includes the Cairngorm mountain range and the hills surrounding it.
The mountain range is home to the Cairngorm which is the sixth-highest mountain in Britain. A large portion of Cairn Gorm is used for downhill skiing. The Coire na Ciste surrounding area has been used as an entry point for a funicular railway. The railway allows access to the 150m below the summit Ptarmigan Building.
Glencoe Mountain
The stunning Glencoe mountain range is comprised of the oldest sedimentary strata in the world. They were formed around 380 million years ago as the result of an underground cauldron subsidence. The rocks were later carved by glaciation into their present form. The highest point of the Glencoe range is Aonach Eagach, an elongated ridge with a pinnacle that connects three peaks of more than three thousand feet.
Although the mountain is stunning it also has a long history. The area was the site of the 1692 Massacre of Glencoe. InScotland Skiing holidaysof not pledging allegiance at the proper time between 30 and 40 Clan MacDonald members of Glencoe were killed by government forces. Fingal, the greatest Celtic hero and the king of the Feinn is famous in the names of several places in the region.
Nevis Range Mountain Resort
Nevis Range Mountain Resort, an outstanding resort in Scotland's Highlands, is home to the UKs only gondola. It is located on the mountain that is closest to Ben Nevis, and it offers a range of activities all year long. Visitors can take advantage of biking and hiking trails and take a cable car up to the summit. Mountain bikers can also use the specialized trails that descend to 2000 feet.
The resort also has the only World Cup downhill course in the UK. There are numerous MTB trails that are suitable for riders of all levels and a new Blue Doon Trail for families to take advantage of.
Lecht Ski Area
The Lecht Ski Area is a great place to go for those who love the outdoors and would like to experience the finest Scottish skiing. The area has a wide range of terrain, with gentle slopes and steeper slopes. It's located at the top of the pass that connects Strathdon and Tomintoul.
The Lecht Ski Centre provides 18 km of slopes with 13 lifts that will take you up and down the mountain. This area is perfect for those who are just starting out and has many groomed runs throughout.
