Why Isn’t Your Business Printer Receiving Print Jobs?

Office printers are a central part of your business’s daily operations. When that printer is failing to receive and process the print jobs you send to it, however, those operations can get slowed down significantly. What’s causing your printer to ignore those print jobs? Keep reading to get a few troubleshooting tips for this common office printer problem.

Printer Not Connected to Internet

Most modern office printers receive their print job orders via WiFi. This is very convenient, as it allows you to send print jobs from any device in the office, including smartphones and tablets. However, that WiFi connection can also be the source of your troubles, if your printer isn’t receiving print jobs. If you’ve tried sending print jobs from multiple devices and none of them are coming through, there’s a good chance that the WiFi is the problem.

Check your other devices to see if they’re connected and have internet access. If not, reset your router to see if you can get all the devices to reconnect. If the printer is the only device that seems to not be connected to the internet, you can use the control panel to reestablish that internet connection and start receiving print jobs again.

Device Not Sending to Correct Printer

What if most devices’ print orders are coming through okay, but none of the print jobs from a specific computer are being processed? In that case, the issue is most likely with the computer or device trying to send the print job, not with the printer itself. Double check the print settings on the device and ensure the right printer is selected, and that the device is properly connected to the internet. If these seem to be in order, but print orders still aren’t being processed, you can also try the following steps:

  1. Uninstall and reinstall the printer on that computer.
  2. Disconnect and reconnect to the WiFi.
  3. Reboot the computer.

These 3 steps will usually take care of most connection issues and get print jobs processing again.

Don’t Have Permission to Print

Many modern printers can be set up to only allow certain individuals to print, or require a login code to start printing any print jobs. Double check the settings on your printer to see if you’ve set it up to limit printing without intending to do so. You may need to remove some printing restrictions to get the printer back to work again.

These simple tips will get most business printers in Fairbanks, AK, back in working order so that your office operations can get back on track.
