Glossy Finish Vs. Matte Finish: Which Should I Choose?

When you are ready to give the inside of your home a facelift, you need to make sure that you are choosing the right interior paint for your needs. There are a lot of options when it comes to the type of finish you would like to use. The two most common options are Matte or Gloss, but which one should you choose?

Matte:

Matte paint is one of the flattest finish options that you can choose because the light rays are going to be soaked up into the paint rather than spreading out and reflecting back. This is a great concealer on a wall because it can hide all the imperfections that may be present, rather than bringing them forward. It is also easy to do a touch up on the wall with this kind if you need.

One of the biggest issues with this type of paint is that it is hard to clean. It likes to hold onto the dirt and if you clean too hard, it will remove all of the finish. There are a few options out there that make cleaning easier, but they may be slightly different than the traditional matte finish.

Glossy

For glossy paints, there is a reflective layer that will make the wall shine a bit. These paints are going to be a good option because they are durable. It will hold onto humidity well and can be easy to clean off. This type is good at resisting moisture so you can use it in the bathrooms and kitchens rather than some of the other finish types.

The biggest issue here is that the glossy paints are going to show up each imperfection on the wall if you use it on a wall that needs some work. It is also hard to do a touch up because the sheen will show some of the differences. You will need to do a few extra steps to help get these walls to look nice.

Choosing a good finish type for your home is an important step to help your home look as nice as possible. There are so many different finish types that you can go with. While the gloss and the matte are two common options, there are many choices you can make with interior paint types for your home. Research each one a little and decide which type of finish is going to be right for you.
