An arc flash is a type of electrical blast or discharge that occurs when a connection is made through the air to the ground or another voltage phase of an electrical system.

Causes of arc flash:

Electrical current can cause an arc flash when it becomes uncontrolled and jumps from one conductor to another through an air gap between conductors.
