Hello, here's a semi-regular reminder that Minecraft is quite big. Microsoft chief executive officer Satya Nadella revealed during the company's latest financial update that Mojang's build-em-up game has surpassed 140 million monthly active users between January 1 to March 31. However the number of active players Minecraft currently has is 30% higher than the same period last year.
Nadella also explains that Minecraft creators have earned more than $350 million through "more than one billion downloads of mods, add-ons, and other games in Minecraft". This isn't even including activities outside of Microsoft's marketplace either.
While the pandemic could cause an increase in Minecraft players, there are many other factors that are driving the demand.Reviews Mojang's pixelated version of Diablo, Minecraft Dungeons was released in the year before, and this year, Caves and Cliffs will be available in two parts. Mojang explained that it has split the update into two parts to ensure quality, control technical complexity, and keep the development team healthy. Expect to see some of the new mobs and blocks in the summer, and the more complex parts related to world generation in the holiday season.
In Microsoft's financial statement the company says it racked up $41.7 billion in revenue, which is up 19% over the same period last year.
"Digital adoption curves have not been slowing down, even though we're more than one year into the pandemic." They're accelerating, and it's just the beginning," Nadella says.
