The New York Times reported that Traci and Dave Gagnon got married in the metaverse over the Labor Day weekend. The couple held their in-person wedding at a golf club in New Hampshire, but also had one in the virtual world at the same time for any friends and family who weren't able to attend. Instead of having an actual video conference the couple decided to let the entire ceremony take place in a virtual space. Images from the actual wedding were broadcasted in the virtual one.
Jezebel quickly reacted to the news, stating in a headline: "The Metaverse may be the most horrible thing that could ever happen to weddings." It also said that this could make it impossible to respectfully turn down an invitation to a wedding.
