I knew before going to see Pacific Rim that I was going to be a fan at some level. It promised to be ridiculous fun because I love giant robots, kaiju films, and so I was excited. It was great fun even without being a complete idiot. This is not an intellectual film however it is that is full of love letters to the genres that have inspired it, and full of homages without ever getting into the past.
You can skip on 3D, because it didn't make use of it to great effect and if you're remotely interested in this film, do yourself a favor and watch it. It's well worth every penny and more.
I could wax poetic about the film, but WRUP is not about what films we love to watch. You'll find exactly that when you've got beyond the break. You are welcome to tell us what you'll be playing over the weekend down in the comments.
@Beau_Hindman: I'm a shooter fan now, moreso than I was before. Therefore, I'll be spending time in PlanetSide 2, Defiance, and, most recently, Firefall which looks amazing. My wife is gaming on her laptop so we can play together and destroy things. Life is hard. I'll also be taking on RuneScape's Bacon Quest. It looks amazing but the bacon jerky they sent was incredibly bad.
@nbrianna: I'm not sure where I'll be this weekend. Ultima Online lapses soon, my EVE Online freebie lapsed, and Guild Wars 2, I'm informed that it has in the past week turned into a series of jumping puzzles that have no way out. When World of Warcraft starts to look appealing again, I know I'm mad. Save me, Steam summer sale!
@PsykopigAU - I am certain to go to Guild Wars 2 this weekend. However due to the constant shut downs of the oceanic servers I've been thinking about taking an easy trip to Star Wars: The Old Republic. It brought back memories of the wonderful moments I had playing PVP on servers with low-ping and also reminded me of how much I've missed the game.
@Eliot_Lefebvre: It's the final weekend of closed testing in Final Fantasy XIV, so I'll be taking care of that. I also have more to do in Star Wars: The Old Republic before the next patch comes out, and beyond that I've got a 3DS to play on. Theatrhythm Final Fantasy and Fire Emblem Awakening are better than mobile games, and they have every right to be.
@irljasmine: Right now my gaming time is spent exploring Eorzea along with my little archer.mining in runescape servers I enjoy Final Fantasy XIV's A Realm Reborn beta quite often, so I'll be soaking up every bit of beta-related goodness I can. When it's time to step back from moogles, chocobosand moogles, I'll be trying to figure out how my town was built on top of so many fossils in Animal Crossing. It's an issue.
@jefreahard: I'll be playing NCAA Football 14. I am one of those guys But take it this way. The only place Georgia Tech is ever going to be able to win another national championship is on a console and it could as well be mine. Oh and GT Legends is an old racing simulator that I found on Steam. Best $2.49 I've ever spent.
@MJ_Guthrie: I'm looking forward to taking the last of the guardian animals in The Secret World's anniversary celebration and I'll not leave until I do! I'm just trying to catch them all! Seriously, I only need two more (which sadly equates to many, many golem bosses). If I am really lucky, I might even get into Fusang for the last one. If I manage to complete my set before the weekend ends I'll go weave some songs on my Songweaver Aion. I'm likely to return to TSW for more golems.
@RichieProcopio: This coming weekend I'll be playing Guild Wars 2. The new and innovative achievement reward system has really tweaked my OCD tendencies. I now see the game as one long achievement meter that has to be filled all the way up. A hellfire helmet is waiting for my Norn at the finish line. He can remove it and bask in its warmth. Things just got awkward did they not?
@Epykbeard I'll be playing a lot of Wurm Online and some PlanetSide 2 to mix it all up. I'm also enjoying Spartacus Legends on the Xbox and I'm planning to play as much as possible. Of course the Steam summer sale could ruin all of these plans, and I'll end up playing something brand new that everyone else beats three months ago, like BioShock Infinite.
