You Can Now Play 'Old School Runescape' On Your Phone

Old School Runescape is one of the most beloved MMORPGs of all time. It consistently pulls thousands of viewers on Twitch, and even more players are in-game at any given moment.

Now, these dedicated players are able to log into the game from anywhere on their Android or iOS devices. To download the app, search for "Old School Runescape" on Google Play or iTunes. Or, tap here if you're on mobile.

The mobile version of Old School Runescape is simply a method to play the full desktop game on your phone. The app isn't a standalone instance of the game either- it offers " full cross-platform support and a mobile-optimised interface." Basically, it's the Old School Runescape you know and love, and you can login to your existing account to continue right where you left off on desktop.

Runescape's menus collapse so you can see more on your mobile screen.

Old School Runescape lends itself well to a mobile version. Since much of the game is point-and-click, there's little in the interface that feels unnatural. Panning and zooming the camera is done with one or two fingers, and "right click" actions can be accomplished by tapping and holding on a target. I played a bit to get a feel for the controls, and I was very impressed with how smoothly the controls worked on a touch-only device.

While the interface is great for grinding XP on the go, I wouldn't count on it for anything too complex.Apisanet.com The menus feel a bit cramped due to the limited screen size of a phone, and placing a flag on the mini-map exactly where you want it is nearly impossible. The chat window also seems to get in the way often, but tapping "All" in the top left corner will hide this window.

There's a huge amount of activity gathering momentum on Tutorial island, and it's set to take Lumbridge by storm! https://t.co/FcvyNRoqMJ#OSRSMobile pic.twitter.com/VnbI0hZxMW

If you're looking to get back into Old School Runescape, now is a great time. Other players seem to agree, too- Jagex posted a tweet that shows a mass of activity on Tutorial Island, meaning tons of players are creating new accounts with the release of Old School Runescape on mobile. I tend to get sucked back into Runescape every few years, and the game's release on mobile is all the push I need to start a new account.
