'Minecraft: Education Edition' Is Available On Chromebooks



Ahead of a new school year that could have students not stepping into a physical classroom, Microsoft is bringing Minecraft: Education Edition to Chromebooks.



The Chrome OS version of Minecraft: Education Edition will support cross-platform play between the Windows, iPad and Mac versions of the game, which means students will be able to interact and collaborate on their projects regardless of what device they're playing on. Microsoft is updating the program to include 11 new STEM lessons, as well as a Minecraft world to teach students all about pollination and bees.Mega blogof lesson plans and tagged learning abilities are part of the update as well.



According to the company, Chrome OS, iPad, and Windows devices will automatically download the update. However, Mac users will need to download it manually. Schools with Minecraft: Education Edition installed in their classrooms will not have to alter their subscription. The company will add the Chrome OS version of Microsoft 365 Education A3 and A5 licenses.



Minecraft Education Edition is available since the year 2016 It's a bit of a shock to find out that it's coming to Chromebooks this year. Google's computing platform is the dominant one for education. According to Google it was home to more than 30 million Chromebooks in use at schools across the globe in 2019. In 2018, Chromebooks represented 60 percent of all laptops and tablets that were purchased for classrooms of K-12 in the US. This release also gives Chrome OS users an official method to install Minecraft without having to sideload the game onto their device.
