Examiners use Spectrum Analyzers to Bust Cellphone-packin" Cheats

We don't see too many spectrum analyzersaround these areas, and when we do, the tools tend to be rather obscure. But catching cheating cheaters before they cheat again? We can understand that -- and it appears that's exactly what happened in Taiwan recently, when people who were being screened for government jobs were supervised by people who carried the Rohde and Schwarz FSH4 spectrum analyzer. It was not only a "closed book" test, this one was also an "closed phone" test and analyzers allowed test takers to listen for (and pinpoint the location of) mobile phone signals. At present the authorities appear to have discovered three potential cheaters, although additional evidence must be provided before a decision is reached (perhaps they were just sexting). Do we have a piece of advice? The next time you're taking a test in a different location and the room is filled with people sporting large spectrum analyzers and Secret Service-style earbuds You'll probably want to take that as an appropriate warning and shut off your mobile.
