The Canton's First Monday Trade Days


Firstcanton flea marketmay become a yearly event throughout East Texas, but that doesn't stop thousands of people from traveling to the City of Canton to enjoy four days of the month. It is open from Thursday until Sunday, before the First Monday of each month, hundreds of vendors set up their shop for hundreds of shopping opportunities.


What began more than a century ago as an open-air market has evolved into an area that houses some of the most innovative, cutting-edge furniture, antiques and collectibles that can be found anywhere. Over the last 150 years, a lot of things have changed at these quaint streets of the Original First Monday Park; but the genuine, honest interpersonal relationships between vendors and buyers is the reason that people stay back.

According to people from on the street, the concept of First Monday Trade Days started in the 1850's as the circuit judge was able to drive to Canton on the first Monday of each month. Folks from all over the county came to the city to attend to their court matters. Over time, residents would bring their own personal items, be it be produce, livestock or other original items to sell or trade. Then in 1965, First Monday outgrew the city's Town Square so it was moved to the present day area. The rest is history...


First Monday Trade Days is comprised of a range of private sellers . The chances are that no matter how many times you've been to the market you'll never be able to see everything. The flea market is situated on numerous acres, with more than 700,00 square meters of shopping.


The event on First Monday is free, but the majority of the parking spots surrounding the trade fairs charge $5 for parking
