1. Dune
Directed by Denis Villeneuve, Dune tells the story of the fate of planets in the intergalactic future.
Duke Leto Atreides (Oscar Isaac) is a nobleman on the dangerous planet Arrakis, he has just been given a position to manage the planet.
Arrakis or Dune is the only source of the most valuable substances in the universe, spices, drugs that can prolong human life.
Though Leto knows the opportunity is an elaborate trap set by his enemies, he brings with him the Bene Gesserit concubine, Lady Jessica (Rebecca Ferguson), her son and heir to the throne, Paul Atreides (Timothee Chalamet), as well as several Arrakis advisers.
The main focus of this movie is on Paul Atreides, he often has dreams about his future on Arrakis and being part of a local tribe called the Fremen.
The Fremen believed that Paul was the messenger who would free them from colonialism.
This movie won almost every category in technical fields, from best cinematography, editing, background music, production design, visual effects, and best sound system.
2. The Queen of Basketball
The Queen of Basketball is a documentary that won the 2022 Academy Award for Best Documentary Short movie.
This movie tells the story of Lucia Harris Stewart, a pioneering woman in the world of American basketball.
Produced by Ben Proudfoot, this documentary features Lucy's beginnings as a basketball player.
This tall and talented woman is very focused on becoming a basketball athlete.
She led a college club in Mississippi to three national championships and became the first and only woman enrolled in the NBA.
Lucy had many accomplishments throughout the '70s, which is why her name was entered as the first black woman to be inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame.
