So, on the day of the launch of Apollo 12, when Alan Bean was boarding the rocket, people in NASA were wondering what would happen and how would Alan Bean perform in this space mission. All of their doubts were thrown into the sea within 5 minutes of the flight. What happened was that Apollo 12, while being launched on a cloudy day, was struck by a lightning. As a result, all the power went off. So, when one Nasa engineer asked to switch on the auxiliary power switch immediately none of the astronauts and the majority at NASA didn't know where that switch was. All, but Alan Bean. So, because he had prepared so thoroughly, Alan Bean saved the Apollo 12 mission from failing.
