The fanaticism for getting glowing skin has been there since time immemorial. From age-old DIY methods to cliched fairness creams, everything has been tried and tested. We need to shun those trials and errors and listen to what the Dermatologists have to say.

Listen close and listen well:

1. Daily Skincare Routine

For starters, you should have a proper skincare routine that you must follow regularly. Do step-by-by layering of skin, beginning with the lightest product and ending with the thickest.

2. Know What Suits Your Skin

To maintain a daily skincare routine, you must know what suits your skin and what doesn’t. Depending on your skin type, find out what works for your skin and what does not.

3. Drink Enough Water

I know you must be tired of hearing this but it is very important. The easiest and most essential way to hydrate your skin is by drinking water. At least 2-3 liters of water every day is a must.

4. Cleanse Twice A Day

The first step in a skincare routine is cleansing. You have to get this step right to proceed further. Cleansing gets rid of excess oils, dirt, pollution, makeup residue, and dead skin cells from your skin. Two times a day is the mandate for cleansing.

5. Exfoliate Once A Week

Exfoliation is a very important step for getting glowing skin. A lot of dead skin cells get accumulated over the dermal layer of the skin. The more we age, the more dead skin cells need to be shed off from the skin. The dead skin cells do not shed by themselves, it is our task to get them off. The process that helps us get rid of the dead skin cells is called exfoliation. Facial scrubs are the most commonly used exfoliant. If you are sensitive skin, you should avoid face scrubs and go for mild exfoliants like lactic acid or salicylic acid peel-off.

6. Use Toner

Toner is the must-have skincare product to maintain your skin’s pH. It brings to order what cleansers and scrubs tend to disrupt. You can use a toner twice a day after cleansing. Go for toners that are soothing and devoid of irritants.

7. Use Face Serum With Active Ingredients

Serums are beneficial for exclusively treating your skin concerns, be it dark spots, acne, hyperpigmentation, or aging signs. It is always good to pick up serums with active ingredients that suit your skin type. On face serum for glowing skin, the active ingredients you can look for are—Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Hyaluronic acid, Salicylic acid, Ceramides, etc. Each of these ingredients serves a different purpose for every skin type.

8. Never Skip Sunscreen

This point cannot be emphasized enough. Sunscreen is the holy grail that protects your skin from sun damage caused by UV rays of the sun. You have to use sunscreen every day, whether you are indoors or outdoors.  A non-comedogenic sunscreen with Spf 50 and PA++++ is ideal for maximum sun protection. When you become committed to using sunscreen daily, you have accomplished half the journey to getting glowing skin.

9. Moisturise Twice A Day

Lack of moisture can trigger both dry and oily skin types. It can cause a variety of skin concerns, including acne. Moisturizing your skin is important to repair the skin barrier and prevent loss of water. Moisturization is also important for getting the shine and glow you want on your skin. Moisturizers come in three formulations—gel, lotion, and cream—suitable for different skin types.

10. Exercise

Yes, you heard that right. Exercise in any form will help you sweat it out and release toxins from your body and skin.  Blood circulation also improves through exercise, which eventually leads to healthy and glowing skin.

11. Proper Sleep Cycle

You probably do not know this but sleep aids in cell turnover and exfoliation. Seven to eight hours of sound sleep is essential for glowing skin. Getting adequate sleep stimulates collagen production, the skin protein responsible for making your skin look tight and young.

12. Eat Healthily

Don’t tell me you did not see this coming! Get over the junk already and listen to the cries of your body. Just skincare won’t give you the glowing skin you desire. Your skin will sync with your body well when you eat healthily. You can add some of these foods for the glowing skin you want: broccoli, tomato, green vegetables, lemon, oranges, berries, sweet potato, avocado, fish, and walnut.

13. Avoid Alcohol and Cigarettes

Alcohol destroys the supply of vitamin A which is important in collagen stimulation. Skin ages faster due to a lack of Vitamin A. Smoking quickens the natural aging process, making you look older. Cigarettes also contain a lot of cancer-causing chemicals, say 7000, which can easily make your skin prone to skin cancer and psoriasis, a skin condition resulting in dry, patchy, and uneven skin tone. So, why do that to your skin?

Everyone wants glowing skin but only a few make the effort to get it. Here’s hoping you are motivated and already on the way to an effortfully-effortless glowing skin. Bonne Chance!
