WRUP: Regime Change Edition

Common readers of the site know that the upper management is being shifted around right here at Massively, meaning that Brianna Royce will now be in charge. While we'll all the time miss Shawn Schuster's unmistakable voice and work on the site, the change will likely seem invisible to most readers.

I, for one, would like to welcome our new overlord, for whom I have nothing but respect and admiration. By full coincidence, this week's header image happens to be of her favorite animal. Additionally, I could have despatched quite a lot of reward baskets of fruit to her home. And I am positive we can all agree that earlier instances of tomfoolery should not be taken into account when she now considers that she has complete power over me.

Transferring on from the welcoming of overlords, it is time for this week's installment of WRUP, that includes the Massively employees explaining our plans for the weekend as well as whether or not a graphical improve would carry us back to our first MMOs. Try our plans past the break, and tell us what you'll be up to in the feedback!

@Beau_Hindman: I'll be settling down on a brand new deed in Wurm Online, persevering with to grind my teeth as I look ahead to my new Computer to get here, and putting my exploration money the place my mouth is by lastly downloading IMVU. It is a social MMO that looks very... different. I'm additionally nonetheless gathering my listing of pre-World of Warcraft MMOs for coverage. Luckily I still have most of my outdated accounts!

If I updated any graphics for a few of my favourite games, that might mean a downgrade for lots of them. I would like graphics which are extra stylized, significantly like those in Free Realms or Clone Wars Adventures. I would like to see a "critical" recreation completed with a extra stylized aptitude. Wurm On-line can keep how it's, however I actually need to see some new avatars. I do know they're coming, however boy, I can not wait!

@nyphur: This weekend I will be entertaining a visiting Swedish good friend from my old World of Warcraft guild, working hard on Predestination, and attempting to persuade my housemates to play more Guild Wars 2!

My first MMO was RuneScape, and its graphical updates have actually brought me again several times. I began again when it was a blocky world with 2-D goblin sprites, and the primary big 3-D replace hooked me again in for several months. I've returned periodically to see what the sport is like, and the graphics are positively the first thing I look for. EVE Online has the same effect, with large graphical updates pulling folks again in to attempt the game again.

@nbrianna: I will be dividing my sport time between Guild Wars 2 and City of Heroes. Double XP is on permanently in CoH, I hear, so it's the proper time to roll up a new character in time for the Positron's Ally event subsequent week.

My first MMO was Ultima On-line, and graphical upgrades did deliver me again many times. That recreation has had extra improved shoppers than any MMO I do know... however those upgraded clients usually get abandoned by the team before they're finished because most of the veterans simply refuse to switch. Very frustrating!

@Eliot_Lefebvre: Metropolis of Heroes, Star Wars: The Previous Republic, and the ever-common Providing Assist to a Liked One with a Cold. In some unspecified time in the future I'll really play Guild Wars 2 for greater than 10 minutes at a stretch. If I'm fortunate, it is going to be before the top of the decade.

I'm actually the wrong person to ask about returning to a game for a graphical upgrade because graphics have never been what's turned me off from a game. I did not initially leave Final Fantasy XI due to the graphics; I left because the sport wasn't truly fun to play. If I see signs that the sport I did not like X period of time in the past has gotten better, I'll come running proper again, but placing a new coat of paint on a sport I wasn't having fun with doesn't lure me again.

@elixabethclaire: The secret World continues to be on pause for me as I commit my time to Guild Wars 2. I would wish to hit 80 by the center of the upcoming week, so I will be doing quite a lot of PvE and WvW this weekend. I didn't imply to, but I've acquired an entire agenda plotted out for my momentary "essential" after she hits 80, not to mention somewhat roster of who's in need of leveling after her.

Not a lot gaming for me this weekend. Maybe some The secret World.

I go back and play all of my previous MMOs anyway regardless of updates, though I am very a lot wanting ahead to Anarchy Online's eventual reskin.

@Sypster: My MMO to do record is a mile vast at this point. I really want to put a cap on Quantity III E book 6 in Lord of the Rings Online, try the brand new Autumn Festival in RIFT, get by means of Egypt in The key World, and make the large bucks in Guild Wars 2.

As for graphical upgrades, well, if Anarchy Online ever gets that newfangled redux off the ground, then you may guess I'll be first in line. It might be nice to see what a barely extra up to date AO would appear like.

@JayeRnH: This weekend I am busy with a household journey, however in any spare time I've, I'm going to log into RIFT and grasp out next to Atrophinius in the Autumn occasion simply to listen to his hilarious voice-overs. Apart from that, I'll probably pop intoMinecraftwith the kids so we will work on our tree house.

My first MMO was EverQuest, and I would be extra likely to return if the sport really reverted again to the old graphics of avatars and revamped zones.

@mvmatt: This weekend is my roommate's birthday, so we've obtained some mutual friends coming to remain for the weekend. Consequently, my gaming time might be going to be occupied more by split-display mayhem than MMO funtimes. But when the opportunity arises, I will be splitting my time between The key World and Guild Wars 2.

And would I return to EverQuest or Ultima On-line if either one received a graphical replace? That is a very good question. I want to say sure, however I don't know if I might be telling the reality. I cherished UO and EQ back within the day, however I think it will take a bit greater than a graphical improve to make me a participant once more. For each charmingly dated characteristic that I fondly remember, there's a plethora of actually archaic design decisions that I do not assume I would be able to place up with.

@MJ_Guthrie: Oh my gosh! I get to recreation this weekend!! *nearly faints with excitement* How much can I cram in? Let's see, the vote won't be in for Select my Adventure, so The secret World will likely be on hold until Monday. (By the best way, go vote!). To fill my weekend, I am going to dive into GW2 extra (I really want to check out an Asura), start plotting more for my EverQuest II community procuring district in addition to take in just a few dungeons, and unfold my wings in Aion to complete up some quests and possibly even get a couple of rounds of PvP Arenas in. I additionally plan on eating pizza. Mmm.

I'd return if they'd flip the blasted servers again on! (RIP Star Wars Galaxies.)

@mackeypb: I've been playing extra Touhou Hisoutensoku (not that any of you realize what that's), as well as League of Legends. I'm currently carrying as Graves, although I'm fairly sure these studying my column already know that. It feels good to play more airdash fighters, although; I really feel like a little bit of a void has been stuffed in my gamer heart.

To ensure that me to go back to EQ, it might take a better recreation, not a graphical replace. Actually, graphical updates imply nearly nothing to me. If the identical EQ graphics as in 2000 were on high of the GW2 engine, I might still be down for taking part in it. Excessive-high quality graphics are a bonus, not a necessity.

@terilynns: I shall be leaping into Star Trek On-line this weekend to play just a few Foundry missions to discuss on my UGC podcast. I'll also be in Lord of the Rings On-line as I find it very stress-free to farm and craft in that recreation. If time allows, I will probably be back in Glitch as well. And sure, the rumors are true: Some individuals are twisting my arm to provide Guild Wars 2 a try. I might pick it up this weekend.

I'm really glad this week's query would not apply to me. My first MMO continues to be my favourite, and it is a good looking game -- Star Trek On-line!

Firstly of each weekend, we meet up with the Massively workers members and ask them, "What are you taking part in this week?" (In any other case often known as: WRUP!) Be a part of us to see what we're up to in and out of game -- and catch us within the feedback to let us know what you are enjoying, too!
