Following the appeal of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Environment Ministry has recently notified amended rules related to single-use plastic to be out of circulation by 2022. The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has recently notified the Plastic Waste Management Revised Rules, 2021.
These rules are for a complete ban on such identified single-use plastic items by 2022 which are less useful and waste more. There has been an outflow of 'single-use plastic' by the central government from July 1, 2022. Single-use plastics, especially those made of polystyrene and expanded polystyrene, have been banned for production, import, stock, distribution, sale and use across the country with effect from July 1, 2022.
According to a report presented in Parliament by Minister of State for Environment Ashwini Choubey, as of July 23, fourteen states and union territories have joined the special task force. The Delhi Environment Department will also launch a campaign on July 1 to guarantee compliance with the ban on 19 single-use plastics in the national capital, and shut down any production, supplier, stockist, dealer or seller who violates the ban.
According to Plastics, the production, import, stocking, seller, sale and use of certain single-use plastic items such as candy sticks, plates, cups and cutlery has been outlawed with effect from July 1, 2022.
