Windows 11 SE: What You Can And Can't Do In Microsoft's Remote Learning OS

Microsoft launched Windows 11 SE, its new student-focused operating system, in early November following the launch of Windows 11 in October. Windows 11 SE was built with students and teachers in mind and is meant to provide a simple, distraction-free environment for children, according to Microsoft.

This isn't the first Microsoft operating system designed to be a student-friendly one. Windows 10 S was the student-oriented version of Windows 10, but Microsoft stated that this version of Windows 10 only blocked certain apps from downloading, similar to parental controls. Conversely, Windows 11 SE is an operating system that is distinct from Windows 10 SE that focuses on remote management.

Many schools across the United States began remote learning following the pandemic. This was essential for a lot of school-aged children to continue their education. With this in mind, Microsoft created Windows 11 SE.

What is Windows 11 SE? Microsoft Windows 11 SE is a cloud first operating system designed for classrooms with a grade K-8. It features a simplified design and controlled installation of applications. Since the software is designed for classroom use, you're not likely to discover it in retail stores. Instead, Windows 11 SE comes preloaded on selected Microsoft devices that Microsoft plans on selling to schools and educational institutions.

Is it possible to install Windows 11 SE on a home laptop? Unfortunately, no. Windows SE cannot be installed on your home computer the same way as Windows 10 or Windows 11 could. However, if you need to, you can purchase another version of Windows and install it on the Windows 11 SE-enabled device once the device was erased by an IT administrator. The device will not be able to return to Windows 11 SE, though it's a good idea to be cautious before making the move.

What apps work with Windows 11 SE devices? Microsoft Office, Teams and Minecraft for Education are all preloaded on Windows 11 SE devices. Applications like Google Chrome or Zoom can also be downloaded. Administrators can only download and manage additional apps using Microsoft Intune for Education. Microsoft has provided this list of six types of apps that can be downloaded:

Apps for content filtering

Test-taking "solutions"

Accessibility applications

Effective classroom communication apps

Essential diagnostics, management, connectivity and supportability apps

Browsers

Messenger and Spotify apps weren't able to make it. This means fewer distractions on Windows 11 SE devices. Microsoft declared that apps that could be used in web browsers will work.

It is also impossible to alter any of the settings within the operating system. Administrators are only able to change settings, just like the apps. Administrators can also remotely wipe the device.

What is the difference between Windows 11 and Windows 11 compare? The primary difference between Windows 11 and Windows 11 SE is that Windows 11 was designed for personal use, whereas Windows 11 SE was designed to be used for remote management in classroom or IT settings. The different intentions affect how users can get the operating system and what applications can used on the systems. Windows 11 can be upgraded from Windows 10. Windows 11 has no limitations on apps. Only administrators can add apps to Windows 11 SE.Minecraft economy servers Even then, they can only select a limited number of apps. In other words, the systems appear and function the same way.
