Professional Engineers Ontario is Ontario’s engineering regulator. It heavily banks on its volunteers as a regulator. Over 700 professional engineers, engineering interns, and non-engineers volunteer their time every year on behalf of this organization by participating.
The profession of engineering in this Canadian province is governed through self-regulation, which is a privilege given by the provincial government under the Professional Engineers Act. PEO relies on members’ voluntary participation to manage and govern its affairs.
Its volunteers take part on committees, task forces, and its Professional Engineers Ontario’s 36 chapters, working together to support the association.
Council appoints committees to address a continuing requirement and generally stand for several years. Task forces have a limited life period, and they are appointed by Council or its Executive Committee, to study problems, develop recommendations or oversee special initiatives.
As a regulating organization, it recognizes volunteers who have served on chapters, committees, task forces, or PEO Council and celebrates attainments of milestone years of service. It recognizes professional engineers and others who have given conspicuous service to the profession of engineering, usually through association, using the Order of Honour awards program.
Professional Engineers Ontario Volunteer Applicant Requirements:
The Ontario Government mandates that a volunteer gets occupational health and safety and accessibility training. The purpose of this training is to let the volunteer has a clear idea of their rights and responsibilities as a volunteer, as well as their duties when they work as a volunteer. It will allow them to do their work in harmony with the law and with safety.

How to volunteer with Professional Engineers Ontario:
The following are the five steps to volunteering with the organization:
1. You need to complete Occupational Health Safety, Human Rights, and Accessibility Training, which includes the following:
Workplace Violence and Harassment Training for Employees (Ontario Bills 168 and 132)
A deep understanding of Human Rights Training
AODA Customer Service Training (Condensed)
For registration, mail your PEO number, legal name, email address, PEO number, chapter affiliation (when applying for a chapter position), and volunteer position you apply for (if applicable) to [email protected]. You will get log-in information within a couple of days.
2. Fill up the volunteer application form and submit it to [email protected] with your latest resume
3. In case of applying to be a COMMITTEE/TASK FORCE volunteer, the organization will reach you if you get selected for an interview.
When applying to be a CHAPTER volunteer, the organization will notify your chapter that you have applied to become a volunteer. The chapter may contact you to have an interview.
4. If you get a selection to serve as a PEO volunteer, you need to submit the below-given documents to [email protected]:

5. Before starting your volunteer service, you need to complete PEO’s volunteer orientation! A staff of Professional Engineers Ontario will make contact with you to fix an orientation session.
