PEO NPPE (National Professional Practice Examination):
The full form of NPPE is the National Professional Practice Examination, which is a closed book, 2.5-hour, on-online exam on ethics, professional practice, professional liability, and engineering law. A capable candidate may write the NPPE at any time (within the time limit given by the authority, PEO) as they attain 48 months of engineering work experience necessary for licensure. For the reduction of licensure time, an applicant is encouraged to write the NPPE in the time limit given by PEO.
This exam is organized five times a year in January, February, April, June, August/September, and November). The NPPE exam is conducted via remote proctoring, which means an applicant will write the exam from their home. Special accommodation can be made for an applicant with a demonstrated need. One should reach the PEO Exam Centre for information regarding making special accommodation requests.
Professional Engineers Ontario’s Exam center will send applicants a registration notice when can write the exam.
The PEO NPPE confirms knowledge of ethics, law, and professionalism. 12 engineering and geoscience self-regulatory organizations in Canada currently use this system. It follows all relevant standards given in the Standards for Educational and Psychological Testing to make sure that the exam program is trustworthy, valid, and fair (psychometrically defensible).
PEO NPPE in three steps:
1. Complete a PEO license application. When the authority gets your completed license application with the payment, you will be provided with a PEO file number.
2. 2 months before the date of the next available NPPE, PEO’s Exam Centre will send you registration with information on how to register to write the exam if you are eligible.
3. If you, as an eligible candidate, want to write the exam at the next available sitting, then you need to register and submit payment as per the instructions given in the registration mail. If not receiving your registration mail nearly two months before the sitting in question, you should contact the Exam Centre.
NPPE and results schedule:
To register to write the NPPE, you should get a booking confirmation mail with your exam and time from Yardstick nearly three to four weeks from the scheduled NPPE date.
