7. Dye or ink and brush 8. Kerosene lamp 9. Iron
Operating procedures
1. Printing and Dyeing Paper - Traditional Chinese paper-cut artists will use a brush to dye the paper in traditional Chinese red.
2. Hot Stamping - After the dyed rice paper dries, it usually becomes wrinkled. Flatten the crumpled paper with a warm iron.
3. Make a template - the image of the butterfly below is very simple, use a pencil to outline the outline of the butterfly.
4. Smoky Stencil - Take a sheet of dye-ready paper, moisten it, and press the stencil under it. Keep the template side facing the kerosene lamp. The stencils and the areas not covered with stencils are blackened by the smoke from the kerosene lamps. When the paper is completely dry, the stencil is removed, leaving the kerosene lamp smoked areas and the unsmoked blanks covered by the stencil. This is the template for paper cutting.
5. Stacking - Put the decoupage template on top of a small stack of dyed paper, about 20 or so, and seal them together.
6. Paper cutting - Chinese paper cutting artists usually choose sharp scissors with long handles and short toughness. Use it to cut the one with the visible graphics so that the other sheets can be cut at the same time. The first is to cut the inner pattern, and the second is to cut the outer edge.
Among the wide variety of vertical and horizontal cuttings in China, Yuxian paper-cutting is unique. It is mainly based on yin carvings and supplemented by yang carvings. The process can be divided into the following six processes.
1.Painting:The designer draws the pattern according to his own ideas or the requirements of the customer, which is generally called the painting style.
2.Order:Set the drawn pattern on rice paper(generally 50 pieces of rice paper at a time are appropriate)and divide it into small pieces with scissors according to the
size of the pattern.
3.Soaking:Put the ordered goods into the water and wait for it to soak, then take out, squeeze out the water contained in it,and put it in the sun to dry.
4.engraving:put the soaked goods on the wax plate, and engrave them according to the requirements of the pattern.
5.Dyeing:Color the engraved products. The raw materials are color and powder;the tools are brushes and clean newspapers.
6.Package:The products produced through the above five processes are packaged in paper-type plastic packaging or in the form of books, mirror frames, gold and platinum, etc.
