Minecraft on Xbox one this Week, PS4 "soon" or maybe Sooner Update]
Not content with just a few billions, Minecraft starts racking up more sales this week, when it goes live as a download game for Xbox One - and perhaps PS4 too. Mojang's sandbox game will launch on Friday, September 5. 360 owners can upgrade to the Xbox One for $5/PS4. Microsoft states that this upgrade is applicable regardless of whether you have discs or a download copy. The full price version is $20/PS16.

While the PS4 release date is not known however, Mojang's Daniel Kaplan tweeted saying that "Sony fans can expect an exciting Minecraft surprise soon...or maybe sooner?" That tease followed a PlayStation France tweet that claimed the PS4 version will be available today, but as of now no other Sony channels have confirmed this. As soon as someone digs up a concrete release date for the PS4 version we'll inform you.
Update The PlayStation 4 version of Minecraft seems to have been released in the EU. It's not known yet when the game will be available in North America or other regions. [Image: 4J Studios]
For the Vita version, it look unlikely to launch this week. 4J Studios, the porting team, stated last week that it had "more work" to finish before submitting Vita builds to Sony for certification.
The latest versions of Minecraft come with worlds that are up to 36 times larger than their predecessors of the previous generation, and longer draw distances. PS3 and Xbox 360 owners have the option of importing their worlds into the Xbox One and PS4 versions, respectively.
The news comes in the same week Mojang released Minecraft 1.8 on PC The update has been in development for the longest time at the Swedish studio and has been in development for 300 days. It's not surprising that it's quite large, with a plethora of new features you can check out here. Highlights include new Guardian and Endermite mobs that are balanced by the introduction of d'awww - rabbits. There are also killer rabbits that aren't as d'awww but still quite d'awww.
