Multiplayer Co-Op features are available in Astroneer for up to four players playing with clients across different platforms: PS4 with PS4, Steam and Steam, Switch with Switch. Crossplay is only accessible with the Xbox and Windows Store versions.
Take note of the following:
Multiplayer mode requires that all players who are connected to the game utilize the same version. The host of the game might experience performance issues as their computer processes more data. Unlocked progress achievements or rewards are not shared with people who join after the game has been completed. - Your game must be shared with any player who joins. - One player needs to start a game like a solo game and be outside their shelter to find an additional player to join.

Steam UsersSteam Users
Steam users can't join games with co-op in the event that they are friends with Steam. It is best to use the Steam client to invite or join friends.
Crossplay Xbox and Windows 10
To invite a player to your game, you have in to invite them to join your game via the Xbox party feature on either the Windows Xbox app or Xbox.
Once they accept the invite it will redirect them to your game. They will be able to determine if they are connected once they see a small house icon on the globe.
PS4[]
PS4 users are able to join co-op games with people friended on PS4.
Switch[]
Switch is the most recent platform. It offers both local wireless co-op and Internet co-op with Switch friends. Crossplay is not available on Switch.
Dedicated Servers []
Dedicated Servers are available for those wishing to play together, however they are on different platforms. They are also useful for players who want to play with more then four players. Dedicated servers allow for up to 8 players. There are many options depending on the platform you select to play on and the platform of your partner.
- Steam and PS4 versions can also rent a dedicated server from Nitrado or Gportal. They can also use self-hosted servers, provided there is a computer to host them. - Microsoft versions of the game will only use dedicated servers rented from a Microsoft Preferred provider, currently Nitrado or Gportal. Microsoft will not allow self-hosted servers to be connected. - Switch has no choice in regards to dedicated servers. More information on setting up self-hosted servers can be found in Discord in #self-host-talk. - Information on Nitrado and Gportal hosting sites can be found on Discord in #rented-servers-talk. The community on Discord is also able to access public servers that have been donated by members of our community.
Finding other players[]
To find other players, check out the multiplayer channels on the Official Astroneer Discord Server. Post a message in the channel, and other users will send you DMs. Then, chat between you should continue.
