Top Reasons to Check PNR Prediction of IRCTC Tickets

Trains are the most favourable mode of transport for Indians. Usually, more than 90 per cent of people prefer to travel via train. Almost all train seats are booked way before the travelling day. A large number of people have to book waitlisted tickets and have to wait until the chart preparation to know whether their access is confirmed or not. Earlier, this was one of the biggest problems in the ticket booking system. Thankfully, now one can utilise the PNR prediction system for this purpose.

RailMitra’s AI-enabled PNR prediction tools provide an accurate probability percentage. It helps passengers get a better idea of the confirmation status of their tickets. Read more to know how the PNR prediction system works.

What is PNR?

PNR stands for Passenger Name Record. It is a unique 10-digit number which is assigned to every booked ticket. PNR status tells the passengers about the latest updates of their reserved tickets when they have a waitlisted or a RAC ticket. Each PNR number includes six passengers and lasts for nine months. PNR numbers contain all the necessary information regarding the traveller's name, age, gender, boarding point, destination point etc.

PNR prediction service is the best source which helps passengers to get an overview of ticket confirmation before chart preparation.

Information Contained Under The PNR Number

  • Passenger details - PNR number contains details of their travellers as their name, age, gender, nationality, agency, address etc.
  • Boarding station - PNR number contains information regarding the passenger's boarding point.
  • Journey details - It gives passengers information regarding the train name and number, the berth, class and coach, seat details etc. It also provides information regarding the train schedule.
  • Destination stop- PNR number contains information regarding the destination stop where the passengers would leave the train.
  • Booking status - It tells the passengers about their ticket booking status, whether they are CNF, WL, RAC, etc.
  • Zonal codes - The first three digits of PNR represent the zonal code.
  • Fare details - PNR number gives information about the actual fare of the train. Premium trains have higher fares than usual trains.

Types of PNR Status

Confirmed (CNF)

This represents the confirmed status of tickets. The CNF status will provide a reserved berth to the passenger travelling.

Waiting List (WL)

Waiting list refers to the situation when no seat is available on the train. In this case, passengers can travel by train only when they get off the waiting list. The traveller will get the berth when any confirmed ticket holder cancels their ticket or after preparing the chart.

Reservation Against Cancellation (RAC)

It points to tickets having the status - "Reservation Against Cancellation". This means the traveller has a confirmed seat, but the berth has not been allotted. The RAC ticket has the highest chance of being confirmed. In the case of RAC, the allotted seat will be shared by two people if they don't get a confirmed seat.

Cancelled (CAN)

CAN represent a cancellation. This means the passenger has cancelled his plan to travel on this train. The passengers will have to bear a cancellation charge for their tickets depending upon their status and class. The waitlisted or RAC tickets get confirmation status only when there is any such cancellation.

Remote Location Waiting List (RLWL)

RLWL represents the "Remote Location Waiting List". The tickets in the category of RLWL have very low chances of getting confirmation.

General waiting list (GNWL)

GNWL means general waiting list. It mainly includes the major stations during the journey. The chances of getting a confirmation are highest in the GNWL category.

No Seat Berth (NOSB)

It indicates tickets on the No Seat Berth reservation, which means a person can journey but without having a seat.

Pooled Quota Waiting List (PQWL)

Passengers get PQWL tickets when they travel between two intermediate stations, from the origin to an intermediate stop or from an intermediate stop to the last station.

Tatkal Quota Waiting List (TQWL)

These are known as Tatkal Quota Waiting List. Tatkal quota tickets are booked one day before the journey. Those tickets on the waiting list in Tatkal need not go through the RAC process. GNWL is preferred over TQWL during chart preparation.

What is the PNR Prediction System?

The PNR number is a uniquely assigned number to every booked ticket. PNR prediction is made using analytical data, machine learning, previous booking and cancellation trends, days or weeks, holidays, seasonality, and many more. Various online apps show the percentage of confirmation if there is no confirmed seat availability at the time of ticket booking. The higher the confirmation percentage, the higher the chances of getting a confirmed ticket. During the festival, the waitlisted PNR has fewer chances of getting confirmed.

Benefits of Prediction System

  • Status of the booked tickets - The PNR number is allotted after booking a ticket. This number helps passengers get status updates on booked tickets and provides the passengers with information regarding any update in the status.
  • Confirmation probability - PNR number represents the chances of getting the confirmed berth to the passengers. When all the confirmed or RAC tickets are sold out, the Indian Railway assigns waitlisted tickets for further assignment. The confirmation of these waitlisted tickets depends upon the cancellation of these confirmed tickets only.
  • Availability of alternative mode- Based on the Confirmation probability feature, passengers have an idea of whether their waitlisted ticket will get confirmed or not. This helps to avail of other alternative options for their journey and plan accordingly.
  • Use of technology in public service - Earlier, the general public had no idea about their chances of confirmation. There was no suitable technology to predict it. Now the latest technologies are processing data to help passengers give accurate predictions.

What Do the different Confirmation Probability Percentages Mean?

The different percentage represents the chances of getting the confirmation of waitlisted tickets.

  • More than 90% - The percentage representing more than 90% has a full chance of getting the confirmation after the chart preparation.
  • 80% - 90% - This represents that passengers have very good confirmation chances of their waitlisted ticket.
  • 70% - 80% - Percentage representing between 70 to 80% represents good confirmation chances.
  • 50% - 70% - Percentage showing between 50% to 70% represents average changes of confirmation.
  • 30%- 50% - The percentage representing between 30% to 50% has very low chances of confirmation. Passengers should look for alternative options.
