How to Make Feather Earrings

Feathers earings are a classic way to add a touch of elegance to any look, which makes this tassel earring and feather the perfect accent for formal occasions, and can also be worn casually with jeans for an easy style statement for everyday wear.

The first step is to determine the size of your feather. It is based on its purpose of use, however, as a general rule of thumb, use thread that has around 70-75 wraps per inch for best results.

Choose Your Feathers

Feathers earings are a great material to work with in decorative projects because of their wide array of shapes, colors and textures. Feathers can be used in wall hangings, sculptures, wreaths, dream catchers and ornaments The selection of the perfect feathers for each project is crucial as its appearance and feel rely heavily on them - consider factors like color size quality and soft or rigid choices when choosing feathers for use in your product.

Based on the theme you are using Based on your theme, neutral or natural feathers may be best. Although dyed feathers provide plenty of visual appeal however their vibrant hues can disappear faster than natural feathers, so dyed feathers might not be the best choice for your project.

A second consideration is the space available; larger feathers can create more drama and formality, whereas shorter ones may be more casual. When selecting feathers for use in your projects take note of their length and shape; some feathers have flat surfaces while others have more curvilinear or ruffled shapes which add an element of texture. Since not taking care of them properly could result in knotted or static-charged ones that are used, make sure to examine each feather thoroughly before you use it.

It is possible to stack them

If you already own an earrings made of feathers you like, add one or two extra feathers for more volume. As you add more feathers to a headpin, its capacity increases. If you are adding more feathers to your headpin, ensure that you have a high-quality earring wire (the hardware that connects to your ear) is securely in place. I recommend lever backs with an adjustable loop on the bottom, which allows it to be able to open and close with ease.

Once you have your feathers as you would like then place them in the crimp tube and then close it using pliers for an ensconced hold. This allows you to use them for other purposes for example, like sliding beads over them for beaded earrings or wire the headpin directly onto a barrette for a headpiece use; creating bird's nest pendants or clusters of flowers as pendants is also an option; you could even affix feathers directly onto wire to create bracelets! Wrap Them

Feather earrings are a fashionable fashion accessory. Pairing them with both formal and casual attire adds an instantaneous sense of elegance, and being extremely lightweight and easy to wear throughout the day for ease. Bring a splash of colour by simply switching out feather colours!

Feathers make beautiful accessories which require special care to ensure they look their best. When stored either hanging up or lying flat they should not get crushed through other things or by hard surfaces. They must be handled with care to prevent cracking or chipping of feathers.

For a simple way to maintain their appearance, feathers can look great using twine to wrap tightly around them. This kind of twine usually comes as part of a kit or can be purchased separately; the waxy coating of it allows it to wrap tight around objects.

Create a piece of wire long enough to wrap it twice around the feather, then shorten it by about half its original length, with needle nose pliers, hold both ends. One runs parallel with its spine, while the other is perpendicular to it and forms loops (Photos 3 and 4). After doing this you can hang it from either an ear wire or jump ring (great for putting it on a necklace) with its hook through the hole created at the top of wrapping (Photo five).

Crimp Them

It will secure your feathers to an earring with one crimp bead per feather you're planning on adding. After separating your hair in accordance to your preference (not too much though) decide where you'd like to place your feather extension and slide one of the crimp beads onto the wire, then flatten it with jewelry pliers until it cinches tightly around its target feather extension.

If you'd like to add another crimp bead, simply repeat these same steps until you've made your perfect feather earring remembering to make identical pairs!

After your earrings are completed, simply connect their hooks to a jump ring and close it - now enjoy wearing your exclusive, unique feather earrings!
