How do I get and use a Watchstones in Path of Exile


Watchstones are quest items for the Atlas of Worlds system. There are 32 Watchstones in total. It was introduced in Conquerors of the Atlas expansion. Fully-Watchstoned Atlas: there are 8 regions in Atlas, 4 Watchstones in every region. The maxed-Watchstone number is 32 Watchstones. It upgrades all of the Maps to red and the difficulty an insane amount. 

How to get Watchstone?

The Atlas is divided into 8 regions. Each region of the Atlas has 4 Watchstones in different colours, corresponding to 4 Conquerors of the Atlas. Players are required to beat the bosses in their citadels of that region in order to gain the Watchstones. However, if the Watchstone of that region of that boss was acquired already, beating the same boss again will not give the second copy of the Watchstone of that region. Additionally, the Final Conqueror, Sirus, Awakener of Worlds, drops unique Ivory Watchstone.

How to use Watchstones?

Map Tier will be increased by inserting the Watchstones into the altar of the citadel of a region. For example Beach Map has tiers 1, 4, 8, 10 and 14 depending on how many Watchstones inserted in that region. Unique Watchstones provides additional modifier to the Atlas.

Sextants can be applyed to Watchstone , where the player can swapping Watchstone for desired sextant mod. What’s more, Awakening Level of the Atlas will be increaseddepending on number of socketed Watchstone . Since there is 8 sets of Watchstones, the highest possible level of the Awakening Level will be 8.

Although the left side-panel in the atlas provides a space to store watchstones, the watchstones stored within the panel have no effect on the atlas. In order to affect the atlasfor a watchstone, it must be socketed within the relevant area in the citadel.
