Chronic pain can interfere with your daily activities

Chronic pain of moderate to severe intensity occurs in 19% of adult Europeans, seriously affecting the quality of their social and working lives. A long-term condition cannot be cured but its symptoms and complications can usually be controlled with treatment. Some pain treatment options include injecting medications into painful areas of the body, injecting medications around certain nerves, surgically inserting electrical devices or medication pumps into the spinal canal, or surgically cutting nerves. Chronic pain is a serious issue in people with impaired cognitive function. People who are unable to communicate their pain may be under-treated or inappropriately treated and therefore suffer unnecessarily. People with chronic pain conditions affecting the musculoskeletal system are among the most affected by disability in our community. Musculoskeletal pain is related to conditions affecting the muscles, bones and/or joints, which are also known as musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions. They are often but not always related to injury or old age. Most pain can successfully be treated by a multimodality or combined approach based on the type or types of pain involved.

Prolotherapy is an injection technique used to treat chronic pain related to damage to underlying ligament and/or tendon structures. It involves injecting a small amount of a mixture of Novocain and dextrose (sugar), or other similar solution, directly at the site of damage. The sugar stimulates the body’s natural healing and repair processes. Attacks of low back pain are usually of sudden onset. Some 80 percent of the victims had a relief of pain within two weeks but 10 percent were still in pain five months later. Even the brief episodes tend to recur and may become more frequent and prolonged. Intractable pain can develop from several types of health problems. It can be felt in your joints, bones, muscles, and even your head. Neuropathic pain is caused by injury to the nerves that are involved in the propagation of electrical signals that send messages of pain from the receptors to the brain. This type of pain is typically described as a sharp, shooting pain and is often more intense as compared to other types of pain. Research shows that Prolotherapy helps to alleviate pain in sufferers.

While alternative therapies tend to be safe in appropriately selected patients, it is important to have any neck or back pain that persists or is accompanied by numbness or weakness to first be evaluated by a physician. Pain, especially chronic pain, is a serious health concern affecting the quality of life of over one-third of the population all over the world, costing billions of dollars per year. Pain often occurs concurrently with hypertension and other cardiovascular risk factors. Only go to bed if the pain is so severe that you just can’t stay up.Bed rest tends to weaken muscle strength, your pain may be more likely to flare up again faster when you get up again. If you do decide to go to bed for a short while, try some gentle stretching exercises whilst lying in bed. Even wiggling toes and fingers will help a little. Chronic pain can interfere with your daily activities, such as working, having a social life and taking care of yourself or others. It can lead to depression, anxiety and trouble sleeping, which can make your pain worse. This response creates a cycle that’s difficult to break. The branch of medical care referred to as complementary and alternative medicine has been in practice in some parts of the world, such as China and India and among the numerous tribes of the indigenous American peoples, for hundreds of years. These traditional techniques may not necessarily be considered "complementary" or "alternative." Feeling low, anxious or depressed can also mean that it is often hard to feel motivated to do anything positive, feeding avoidance cycles and ‘empty time.’ This then often leading to pain becoming even more overwhelming, as the lack of positive distraction fuels worrying thought processes, further feeding into pain maintenance cycles (keeping the pain gate open). Pain is not just a pathophysiological process which was once though, it is an experience that is individual and unique to everyone. A pain diary can play an instrumental role in the management of chronic pain and help health professionals to gain a comprehensive understanding of the pain experienced by the patient. This helps to avoid gaps in the history, and certain patterns that can be addressed with or without pharmacological intervention can be implemented. Pain can come from any part of your body : skin, muscle, ligaments, joints, bones (nociceptive pain), injured tissue (inflammatory pain), nerves (neuropathic pain), internal organs (visceral pain) or a combination of these types of pain (mixed pain). People display and describe pain in many different ways, from stoical minimization to neurotic exaggeration. In exploring the nature of pain, it will be necessary to separate reality from what we think ought to be observed. Prolozone is a technique that marries concepts from neural therapy, Prolotherapy, and ozone therapy. It involves injecting various combinations of procaine, anti-inflammatory medications/homeopathics, vitamins, minerals, proliferatives, and a mixture of ozone/oxygen gas into degenerated or injured joints, and into areas of pain. The result of this combination is nothing short of remarkable in that damaged tissues can be regenerated, and otherwise untreatable pain can be permanently cured. Depression and stress tend to make pain worse, including chronic pain. Pain can feel worse when we feel anxious and easier to cope with when we are more relaxed.
