Glue trap seals 28-day search in north Raleigh for venomous zebra cobra.

As a result of hours of consultation between law enforcement and animal control officers,the glue trap finally caught a venomous zebra cobra on the porch of a home in north Raleigh on Wednesday night,ending an eventful 48-hour period that attracted attention throughout North Carolina.

To remove the glue fully from its body, the cobra was guided into a red bucket and moved to a safe location.

WRAL's cameras caught the snake the previous day crawling onto the porch of a house on Sandringham Drive. Lifting its head, its hood could be seen.

Before moving in to capture the snake, Animal Control officers moved camera crews to the back.

An early morning 911 call from that same home prompted the search.

North Carolina, Raleigh Following hours of consultation and preparation by Raleigh police and animal control officers,a venomous zebra cobra was captured with a glue trap on a north Raleigh porch Wednesday night,capping an unusual 48-hour saga that garnered national attention.

To completely remove the glue from its body, the cobra was seated in a red bucket and transported to a safe location.

An earlier image captured by WRAL show the snake scrabbling to the front porch of a house on Sandringham Drive, crawling through the siding. Lifting its head, it was able to see its hood.

Officers from Animal Control moved the cameras back after confirming that it was the snake, trying to capture it before moving in.

Searches were launched early Tuesday after the same home made a 911 call.

Joan Nelson said she was relieved that the ordeal was over.

It makes me feel much safer, she said. It feels good to be outside now, even walking on my deck. It's very sad for the snake, though.

There is a striped snake in the yard of a north Raleigh neighborhood where a zebra cobra has gone missing.

A zebra cobra, which can spit up to nine feet, is faster than most snakes, so even a morning stroll with the dog becomes a fearsome event. Approximately 60% of all snakebite deaths occur in Africa. As a result of the venom, a victim's nervous system could shut down.

Those stung by the poison would experience severe pain, swelling, rashes, nausea, and diarrhea as a result. A high fever and breathing difficulties would follow, which could lead to respiratory failure.

A veterinarian at Avian and Exotic Animal Care, Salina Locke, treats all sorts of animals there.

Cobras typically do not bite. Venom is more likely to be sprayed by them, she said; they are very accurate and aim straight for the eyes.

She is not recommending it for pets, due to its risks.

Tuesday afternoon, police searched a home at 6917 Chamonix Place, near the last location where the cobra was spotted.

In March, there was an issue with the animals at that home. In the afternoon, the zebra cobra was spotted on a porch half a mile away.

The records of the county show Rebecca and Keith Gifford live at the address. An account linked to Keith Gifford's name features several photos of snakes belonging to his son, Christopher.

On TikTok, Christopher Gifford has over 460000 followers. In one of his posts, he claims to have a 7-foot-long zebra cobra.
