NBA 2K22: Consoles, Versions, Features and Platform Availability

NBA 2K22 is officially up for preorder after 2K announced this year's cover athletes early today. As usual, there are numerous editions to choose from at a range of price points, with each cover differing quite a bit and certain cover stars exclusive to specific editions. NBA 2K22 releases September 10 on consoles and PC.

NBA 2K22 preorders start at $60 with the standard edition for PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC, while PS5 and Xbox Series X standard edition preorders are $10 more at $70. The standard edition is also available with a GameStop-exclusive cover starring WNBA player Candace Parker. A Cross-Gen Digital Bundle getting you access to previous- and current-gen console versions will cost you $80. Finally, this year's premium edition is the NBA 2K22 Anniversary Edition, which costs $100, has a special three-athlete cover, and includes the Cross-Gen Bundle.

NBA 2K22 Consoles

NBA 2K22 is headed to the PS5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Windows PC, and Nintendo Switch.

The game is also heading to the Xbox One, Xbox One X, Xbox One S, PS4, PS4 Slim, and PS4 Pro. These aren’t the latest and greatest models, but we’ll likely see NBA 2K support for these platforms continue on for several years.

Remember, the NBA 2K series supported the PS3 and Xbox 360 until the release of NBA 2K19 in the fall of 2018. Those consoles had been supported since NBA 2K6 (Xbox 360) and NBA 2K7 (PS3).

So if you’re a huge fan of the NBA 2K series, there’s no need to panic if you can’t find an Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, or PlayStation 5 in stock.

NBA 2K22 Versions

We could expect two or three versions of the NBA 2K22 this year. Fortunately, there will be a no-frills standard edition, and it is very likely that we’ll see one or two bundles with some extras, especially for the holiday season.

When it comes to the previous NBA 2K21, the game is available in two versions: the last-generation and the current-generation platforms.

There is also the standard version and the Mamba Forever Edition with a tribute to Kobe Bryant.

We think that 2K22 will also come for the last and current generation of consoles, which is a good thing, especially since most people couldn’t get their new consoles due to a shortage of supply.

NBA 2K22 Features

Last year, 2K Sports and Visual Dynamics were very reserved about the new features of the upcoming 2K21. We are hoping that they’ll be more transparent this year and reveal more about the new features of the upcoming game before the release date.

We can expect that there will be numerous improvements with a focus on the current-generation platforms. There is a high probability that some of the current features will be reworked. You can also expect yearly upgrades and new features to popular modes like MyCAREER.

NBA 2K22’s Platform Availability

The game will be available for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One X, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and PC. The standard edition for last-generation versions (PS4, PC and Xbox One) will be $59.99. The PS5 and Xbox Series X|S’ standard edition will retail for $69.99.

This designation confirms the PC version will again be a last-generation experience.

The Cross-Gen Digital Bundle will retail for $79.99, and it will give users access to either the last or next-gen versions of NBA 2K22, but within the same console family. This means PlayStation users will have it on PS4 and PS5, and Xbox users will have the game on Xbox One X and Series X|S.

Lastly, the NBA 75th Anniversary Edition will cost $99.99 for all consoles. It comes with dual-gen access within the same console family. The Switch version will only be available digitally in the EMEA region.
