Method 1 check whether you can enable IMAP: 

Step 1: In your device browser, visit gmail.com, then click on its settings option.

 

Step 2: Now you will have to click on the tab, ‘forwarding and POP/IMAP’.

 

Step 3: Below the IMAP, select the IMAP option to enable it. 

 

Step 4: Finally do not forget to save the changes.

Set the Gmail address on your Mac, according to this setting below: 

Step 1: Go straight to the tools and then click on the accounts option. 

 

Step 2: Then at the bottom of the screen, there is add (+) symbol, click on it to add a new account. Then enter your email address and click on the continue option. 

 

Step 3: IMAP must be set as:

Username password are the information from your email address. 

Incoming server: imap.gmail.com

Port number: 993; check the SSL box.

Outgoing server: smtp.gmail.com

Port number: 587; check the SSL box.  

 

Step 4: Finally, click on the option add account.
